The Stolen Dog Tricia O'Malley Carrier Lauer 9780989435116 Books Reviews

I chose this book because of it's title--The Stolen Dog. I can not imagine how awful it would be if someone took my dogs. Our dogs are part of our family and to lose a family member through theft would be a mental break down.

This book was an easy read. I felt the author was a friend as she told the events that took place after the dog was taken. She was more than brave to go into some of the rough neighborhoods of Milwaukie. I have seen on Animal Planet the abuse that is done to animals in the inner city in that part of the US. The love for her little Boston puppy was shown by being fearless to keep on putting up flyers in the midst of frightening people who were harassing her physically and verbally on the phone. Having given out her address was even more frightening as she was alone in the evenings when her husband had to work late.

The tension in the story lifts when another little Boston Terrier is thought to be her little lost dog. I loved the way she handled buying him. You will love that part so I won't tell you what happens. It is worth buying the book and finding out for yourself.
I loved the fact that the author even got help from a psychic and that help led her to the clues that eventually loosened the grip of those who had stolen her little dog.

Having read what Tricia O'Malley did in order to begin locating her stolen dog is a big help to any dog owner who just might have their dog stolen. I hope that no one would have to struggle like Tricia in seeking to recover a beloved pet. I think if Tricia O'Malley wrote another book about her pets I would like to read it.

Tricia O'Malley wrote the story in such a friendly way. I felt the entire time she was speaking only to me. There was no tongue in cheek wording of her story. She just told it in such a way you felt friendly toward her and at no time did she use words that seemed to be contrived. It felt easy to read and easily structured as if she were using a proof reader to sell the story.
When Briggs, the beloved Boston Terrier pet of Tricia and Josh O'Malley is stolen right from their yard in Milwaukee, they launch a campaign to recover their pet that will sweep the city and involve many people. What starts as a campaign to tape "Stolen Dog" posters around the neighborhood expands to social media, television interviews, and news mentions throughout the city. Strangers enlisted themselves in the hunt, and with the help of a clairvoyant, they gain valuable clues. This is certainly a tale of the good, the bad the ugly, however since the O'Malley's received some ugly phone calls and threats. Tricia visited unsavory neighborhoods to follow clues and hand more posters and negotiated with an opportunistic young man who had a rescue Boston Terrier that he wanted to sell them.

"The Stolen Dog" is an emotional roller coaster, a story of the bond between a dog and its family, and a tale of the power of the community to pull together and do the right thing.
I really enjoyed getting to know Briggs and Blue. My heart broke when Briggs was stolen. I have had a stolen pet that was never recovered. I was not in a position to be able to do anything close to what Tricia and Josh were able to do. I had to watch my daughter's heart break more and more with each passing day. In time a viscous neighbor owned up to the theft and destruction. The police would not step in since they said we could not prove it and the confession meant nothing...even though she confessed to the police! They said I had no physical proof! So I am soooo thrilled that Briggs was returned AND he gained a "brother"!
A must read for ALL animal lovers/owners.
I absolutely am a dog lover!!! We lost our pooch to cancer over ten years ago and we still miss him terribly. When I saw this book, I had to read it – a stolen dog! How do people cope?? Briggs (the dog) was irreplaceable – not just an animal – but part of the family. Isn’t it wonderful how dog lovers come together? It was such an emotional story all the way through. Where was he? Was he being looked after? Was he being abused? All the questions going through O’Malley’s mind (and my own) – and worse. Our imaginations can take us thru terrible scenarios. We have a dog near here that’s been lost for a whole year – a beautiful dog and so loved. My heart goes out to the owners. We hesitate about getting another dog for two reasons – our age – and another loss – so hard to get over. As the story progressed, I was really asking myself whether this was a happy or sad story. Didn’t know if I could bear the sad. But read on and felt so deeply for all that the family went through – for all that they did to find Briggs and bring him home. The search was so well organized and nothing was left to chance. No stone was left unturned. The unconditional love that Briggs gave to his family was returned in kind. That’s the effect of love!! Won’t reveal the ending but I loved it. Two dogs – oh yes!!
